
In support of the International Day against Homphobia and Transphobia that will take place on Sunday, the Club commits itself publicly to the idea of respect for sexual orientation in sport
FC Barcelona, via their Foundation, are adding their support to the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia which will take place next Sunday 17 May. The Club will make a public commitment in favour of diversity and respect with regards to sexual orientation in the field of sport and against homophobia.
This commitment will be signed by the vice president of the Social Area Jordi Cardoner during an event that will take place on Thursday at 7.00pm CET in the Sala Paris by the honourable councillor from the Generalitat, the Catalan Regional Government, Santi Vila.
The event will also be attended by Ramon Pont, vice president of the FC Barcelona Foundation, and it will include a series of invited speakers under the title ‘Barça against homophobia’. Miguel Ángel Aguilar García, judicial coordinator for the Discrimination Service of the Provincial Judicial Area of Barcelona; Albert Oliva, inspector from the Mossos d’Esquadra, the local Catalan police force; the president of Panteres Grogues, Jacques Schoofs and the vice president Jordi Cardoner who will bring the event to a close.
Video ‘We play as a team, we celebrate respect’
The signing of this manifesto is a consequence of the commitment to social issues that has always been a character of the FC Barcelona and its Foundation, and it commitment to defending values such as respect and tolerance that forms part of its essence as a club and that is channelled through its Foundation.
In the manifesto FC Barcelona commits to, amongst other things, supporting the incorporation into the Law 19/2007 of 11 July against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport, the fight against homophobia and discrimination of any type in sport and also to promote diversity and to ensure the spreading of positive messages on tolerance, respect and dignity in the area of sexual orientation.
As such, the Club has created a promotional campaign under the heading ‘We play as a team, we celebrate respect’, which includes a video that supports the fight against homophobia and that is based on a goal from Andrés Iniesta. The Barça midfielder is just of several sportsmen from the Club who take part in the video, the others being Dani Alves and the captain of the handball team Víctor Tomàs. Also appearing are local figures and celebrities such as Bernat Soler, Elisenda Roca, Toni Cruanyes, el Mag Lari, Manel Fuentes and Sor Lucía Caram.
