The Foundation and the VHIO will work together to raise awareness about cancer and importance of more research in the field
The FC Barcelona Foundation and the Vall d’Hebron Institut d’Oncologia have reached an agreement to raise awareness of the fight against cancer and the need for more research to ease the plight of its sufferers and their families.
The agreement was signed on November 1 at the Camp Nou in the presence of Josep Maria Bartomeu, president of FC Barcelona, and Dr. Josep Tabernero, director of the Institute, in the company of Ramon Pont, first vice-president of the FC Barcelona Foundation and Andrés de Kelety, manager of the Vall d’Hebron based centre.
“As a club that is committed to society, joining the fight against cancer is one of our greatest challenges” said Bartomeu. “To do so along with the Vall d’Hebron Institut d'Oncologia is a true privilege. We are proud to join this family of medical professionals who do so much to help improve people’s lives, and are achieving such promising results.”
"We are very honoured to be able to form an official union with FC Barcelona” continued Tabernero. “Cancer prevention has to start from an early age, and new generations must be fully informed about the most adequate lifestyles, such as regular exercise and a healthy diet. The collaboration between FC Barcelona and the Vall Hebron Institut d'Oncologia will surely foster progress towards greater awareness regarding cancer and the best ways of preventing it.”
Barça implicated with the cause
The agreement reaffirms FC Barcelona’s commitment to the battle against cancer. In the past, the Foundation has, for example, invited young cancer sufferers to watch first team training sessions. And recently, on International Breast Cancer Day, the Edelmira Calvetó Group was also involved in a series of awareness campaigns in the Camp Nou and Palau Blaugrana.
Helping the world
The Vall d’Hebron Institut d’Oncologia (VHIO) is one of the world’s most foremost oncological centres, where scientists and doctors work together to combine basic science with clinical research. It’s main objective is to promote and develop excellence in relation to research into oncological illnesses. The VHIO is also working on developing new therapies to improve the way that cancer is treated.
